OUR VAQUITA GOAL
ACHIEVING AWARENESS
WHERE
At the Gulf of California, this endemic species roams near warm shallow waters, and is in danger of extinction. Many organizations have worked on finding more efficient ways to care for the Vaquita. Passionate people are putting everything they can into projects to conserve these Vaquitas.
PROJECT
Our Vaquita team created three podcasts, talking about the Vaquita, and ways that this mammal has been impacted. We included parts of an interview we had with Barbra Taylor, who is a Marine Conversationalist at NOAA Fisheries. This was a great way to be creative about an important topic that we cared about through a podcast.
WHY
Not many people know much about Vaquitas, so it is up to all of us to make sure it's name is heard. In addition to the project, we had to research more about what the Vaquita does to our environment, and go more in depth with why this should matter to everyone.
ABOUT US
We are a group of three 11th grade students from High Tech High North County. Our main purpose was to focus on one species that was critically endangered. When we chose the Vaquita, we knew that researching more about people who knew anything about them, would be our inspiration for our podcast.
I am Jenny Lovstrom and I am a junior in high school. We had to choose an endangered species to research and create a podcast, and I was most interested in the Vaquita. Before this, I didn't know anything about the Vaquita or that it was a marine mammal, but now I know it would be really beneficial to let more people know about the Vaquita and hope that our podcast will help bring awareness.
I am Paola Toledo, and I am also a Junior at High Tech High North County. We were pompted to choose an endangered species and we chose to focus on the Vaquita. At first I thought it was interesting because of its name, and through our podcast you'll find out why. We all came into this project without any knowledge about these species. We put a lot of effort into these podcasts and we hope you enjoy listening to them as much as we enjoyed making them. We find this project to be a great opportunity to spread awareness about endangered species and give them a voice they don't have, so the world knows more about them.
